The Yorktown Baptist Church is located a little more than 3 miles east of their homestead. While their exact burial place is not recorded, it is reasonable to assume they are buried here with his brother David F., their sons Jacob and David E., and other descendants.

She was a member for many years of the Furnace Woods Methodist Church and was known far and wide for her many virtues. She is survived by three sons, Eugene L. Tice, Wilbur S. Tice, Delavan Tice, of this town, and four daughters, Mrs. Cornelius Lancaster, Mrs. Elvin W. Cornell, Mrs. Henry B. Hegeman and Mrs. Albert L. Horton. Also two brothers, Harrison Travis, of New York, and Lewis Travis, of Peekskill. The funeral services were held from her late home yesterday (Friday) afternoon, the Rev. Custer C. Rich, of the First Baptist Church, officiating. The interment was in the family plot at Hillside.

Westchester county, were digging post holes on his farm on the 22 of last month, when two hunters, named William Hyatt and Frederick Lent, with dogs and guns, came up and engaged Travis in a conversation. The dogs soon got into a fight, and in trying to separate them Lent used the butt of his gun for a club, and at the first blow he struck the animal the weapon discharged, the load entering Travis’ leg, shattering the Bone necessitating amputation, Yesterday Travis died. Published in The New York Herald, December 6 1882. Death from Lockjaw: Mr. Samuel Travis, of Furnace Woods, in this town, whose serious injury from the accidental discharge of a gun in the hands of Fred Lent, of Montrose, two weeks ago, which was duly reported in these columns, and whose leg was amputated two days after the injury was received, died on Monday afternoon last in great agony, lockjaw having set in on Saturday. Before his death Mr. Travis sent for Mr. Lent and in the presence of his family stated that he exonerated Mr. Lent from all blame in the case; that the affair was purely accidental. Mr. Travis was about 48 years of age and leaves a wife and seven children, the eldest, a son of twenty. Published in Highland Democrat. December 9,1882
